History
The first Gravel Bar Yacht Club, in Bar Harbor, was established in 1960. The clubhouse sat on the Point of Bar Harbor overlooking East Harbor State Park and East Harbor Channel.
Situated beautifully on Lake Erie with views and easy access to the Erie Islands, the Yacht Club served many seasonal boaters along with a few residents of Bar Harbor. The club operated as a gathering spot where parties and cruises were planned. As time went by, more homes were built and the property where the clubhouse resided was sold. Not wishing to break tradition and with a desire to keep the yacht club active, a new clubhouse location was chosen within Bar Harbor. Members gathered their resources and a beautiful new facility was built in 2001.
Still in Bar Harbor off the East Harbor channel, the club now sits directly on the shore of Lake Erie with amazing views of both Kelley’s Island and South Bass Island. The Gravel Bar Yacht Club continues to be a gathering spot for local residents, dock owners, as well as friends from many locations around Marblehead.
